UltiMAK M1-B-- A rock-solid platform for your
premium optics. With the increasing popularity of the AK based
rifles in three gun competitions, the need for a handy, light,
completely reliable high speed sighting system has resulted in
the UltiMAK M1-B optic mount. Its Picatinny style rail is
positioned well below the iron sight axis, making this the
lowest optic mount available for the AK. With a tubular sight
mounted low, you will be able to use your optic without a comb
riser and still use your regular hold. The system allows for co
witnessing (the ability to use your iron sights right through a
1x sight as a back-up sighting system) when used with a tubular
reflex sight. This heavy duty mount replaces the original steel
gas tube and upper handguard, so it adds less than one ounce to
the weight of the rifle, making it by far the lightest optic
mount installation in the world. The forward positioning of the
optic gives you faster, easier and more natural targeting while
maintaining your full field of view. Multiple target or moving
target engagements, with both eyes open, become second nature.
The mount rarely if ever needs to be removed to clean the rifle,
so you need not worry about loss of zero. Since the mount is
clamped to the barrel and not jammed in between the gas block
and the sight block like the original gas tube, several UltiMAK
users have reported an improvement in their AKs' inherent
accuracy.
Shown here the M1-B is installed on an Egyptian rifle with a
Choate Dragunov style stock. |
Will the UltiMAK
Optics Mount fit my rifle?
The UltiMAK Optics Mount has been engineered for
compatibility with a wide range of AK rifle variations. If you
have a 7.62 x 39 caliber AK with standard weight barrel and a
standard length, removable gas tube (roughly seven inches, or
17.7 centimeters overall gas tube length) the Mount should fit
nicely. We have yet to find a rifle of the above description
that our mount does not fit, providing that the rifle is
assembled reasonably straight. Some AKs have radically
misaligned gas blocks as compared to the rear sight block. In
rare cases, this can cause problems installing the UltiMAK
Mount.
Also fits Romanian 5.45 x 39 and .223 (5.56 NATO) caliber AKs
using barrel shims available from UltiMAK (Romanian 7.62 x 39
AKs usually sold as the SAR-1 or WASR-10 do not need the shims).
Chinese AKs in 5.45 mm, 5.56 mm (.223) or 7.62 x 39 do not
require shims. We have customers using our style 2 Mount (M2-B)
on their Chinese "RPK"s (NHM-91). The Russian, RPK based VEPR II
rifles in all calibers have a heavier barrel, like an RPK
should, and all are equally compatible with our VEPR II Mount
(M3-B). The M3-B is designed specifically for these heavy barrel
AKs.
All UltiMAK AK mounts are designed to be slightly shorter than
the original gas tube. This helps in two significant ways. 1. It
ensures a fit on practically any AK without custom fitting,
which would require cutting through the hard anodizing-- a nasty
process that will dull all but the best carbide tools. 2. More
importantly, the shorter tube can be mounted so it does not
press against the rear sight block or the gas block. In this
way, the mount is not jammed against any part of the barrel
assembly at either end, and the barrel can expand and contract
with temperature changes without changing point of impact.
Several customers have indicated an improvement in accuracy
after installing UltiMAK mounts on their rifles.
There are some Hungarian, and possibly some Yugoslavian, AKs
that for some reason have a gas tube that is more than an inch
shorter than standard. There can be no mistaking this short tube
with the standard length gas tubes, as it barely extends beyond
the upper handguard. We now offer a mount specially engineered
for these rifles-- the M7-B. We do not currently offer a mount
for the "Krinkov" style weapons.
All of the old AK-47/49 style wood forends (with no side bulges)
such as found today on most Chinese MAK-90s, have required some
wood removal inside, to make room for the clamps. This procedure
is covered in the illustrated installation instructions that
come with your M1-B or M2-B Mount. Alternatively, you can
purchase a compatible forend from UltiMAK or other AK parts
supplier.
So far, any of the Bakelite or synthetic forends we have tried,
including the "AK-100" series with steel heat shield, and the
synthetic forends from Choate, will work nicely without
modification, as will most AKM style wood forends having side
bulges. If your experience differs from this, please drop us a
line and let us know. We will be glad to hear from you.

The UltiMAK M7-B adds critical functionality to
this AMD-65. This semi auto version makes an excellent sporting
weapon. The shorter AK, with its folding stock, was originally
designed for motorized units. It's smaller size makes it easier
to handle in the confined spaces of troop carriers, aircraft,
and other vehicles. It uses a 20 round magazine (shown) for the
same reason, but it will take the 30 round mags too. The
ventilated metal "forend" required some minor fitting to make
room for the mount and barrel clamps. This was easily
accomplished using a Dremel tool, finishing afterwards with some
cold bluing compound. |
 |
|
This AMD (cal. 7.62 x 39 mm) is afflicted with a
permanently attached, 4-inch barrel extension in the form of a
muzzle break (originally the break would have been a little bit
shorter). The primary purpose of the extended muzzle break, in
this case, is to get the barrel length up to the minimum 16
inches required to, apparently, render the firearm unsuitable
for criminal or nefarious applications in the U.S.. Certainly
though, this little weapon is handsome, accurate, tough, potent,
reliable and affordable, not to mention extremely cool (when was
the last time you said that about a politician?). This entire
package with UltiMAK mount and Aimpoint CompC reflex sight,
several spare magazines, case, and a small supply of ammo, cost
less than a thousand dollars. |
Will the UltiMAK M7-B
Optic Mount fit my rifle?
The UltiMAK M7-B Optic Mount has been engineered for
compatibility ONLY with particular AKs that have
shorter-than-standard gas tubes. These shorter gas tubes will
measure approximately 5 and 7/8 inches. We say "approximately"
because AKs tend to vary slightly.
This measurement can be taken only with the gas tube removed
from the rifle.
Do not order the M7-B simply because you have a Hungarian AK.
Some of them have standard length gas tubes (approx. 6 and 15/16
inches)
The vented, stamped metal forend as found on the AMD-65 curves
inward at the top, and will need to have some of this top
portion removed to make room for the mount and clamps. Placing
the mount over the forend and marking the forend with the
location of the two clamping positions with a pencil makes for
an easy and accurate grinding job. A 3/8 to 1/2 inch diameter
grinding stone on a Dremel tool makes easy work of this, and
took only a few minutes. Synthetic or wood forends typically
need no modification.
All UltiMAK AK mounts are designed to be slightly shorter than
the original gas tube. This helps in two significant ways. 1. It
ensures a fit on your AK without custom fitting, which would
require cutting through the hard anodizing-- a nasty process
that will ruin all but the best carbide tools. 2. More
importantly, the shorter tube can be mounted so it does not
press against the rear sight block or the gas block. In this
way, the mount is not jammed against any part of the barrel
assembly at either end, and the barrel can expand and contract
with temperature changes without changing point of aim. Several
customers have indicated an improvement in accuracy after
installing UltiMAK mounts on their rifles.
The M7-B will not fit, and cannot be altered to fit, the super
short "Krinkov" type AKs. |

for U.S. Carbine, Caliber .30, M1

 |
| Taking the versatility of the M1
Carbine to the next level, the new UltiMAK model M6 mount is the
lowest, most stable and practical optic mount available. The
forward positioning allows faster targeting with better field of
view, provides more rail length, maintains full access to the
receiver mechanism with optics in place, and will not interfere
with case ejection. No need to remove your rear iron sight. Use
of Q.D. type scope rings (Aimpoint 10818 shown) allows you to
revert to full functionality of iron sights while your UltiMAK
M6 mount remains in place.
The MIL STD 1913 (Weaver/Picatinny) rail sits lower than
anything else available for this great rifle, providing a
better, more natural spot weld for extremely fast target
acquisition. No-gunsmithing installation (some stocks require
minor inletting of wood inside the forend, while the old G.I.
stocks we've tested require no modification). CNC machined from
super strong 6061-T6 Mil Spec hard anodized aluminum. Will not
fit, and cannot be modified to fit, any Carbines manufactured
under the name "Universal" and some Carbines made by Plainfield.
If you have a Universal or a non-mil spec Plainfield Carbine and
you want to enjoy the benefits of the M6-B forward optic mount,
it is advised that you trade it for a G.I. pattern carbine.
Either a 1940's vintage or the more recent production IAI, or
the new Auto Ordinance Carbines will perform better, and will be
compatible with all after-market stocks and accessories. |

M-14 / M1A Forward Optic Mount 1913 (Picatinny) style rail
Clamps directly to barrel for maximum stability and accuracy.
Allows use of Intermediate Eye Relief (IER) "Scout" scope,
pistol scopes, reflex sights, and holographic weapon sights.
Comes complete with screws, barrel clamps, recoil lug, Allen
wrenches, and easy instructions. No gunsmithing or alterations
required. Fits original, standard weight barrel profile only
(H&R, Springfield, TRW, etc.).
(Model# M8)
Made in U.S.A. |
 |
| Forward, low mounting configuration with a
generous length Picatinny type rail. This shows the M8 on a
Springfield standard model M1A, topped with the Leupold "Scout"
scope-- Elegance, grace, power, and innovation rooted in the
experiences of history. |
 |
This is by far the lowest, most
stable optic mount available for the M-14 / M1A, and since it
replaces the entire handguard, it does not require a new or
modified handguard. The 1913 style (Picatinny/Weaver) rail sits
lower than the factory iron sights, providing a better, more
natural cheek weld for rapid target acquisition, and natural
point of aim, without the need for a comb riser. Now for the
first time ever, you can co witness the factory M-14/M1A iron
sights with tube bodied, reflex sights such as Aimpoint or
Trijicon Tripower, and the entirely unobstructive mount can
remain in place whether or not you're using optics. The forward
positioning allows faster targeting with better field of view,
much more forgiving eye relief, greater mounting versatility,
and full access to the receiver mechanism and stripper clip
guide with optics in place. The rifle can be easily and
completely field stripped without removing the mount or the
optic. No-gunsmithing installation - the M8 mount can be
installed in the field by anyone who can read the instructions
and use the supplied Allen wrenches. Fits standard weight M-14
and M1A barrels only. Works as a drop-in installation with any
wood or synthetic stock. Completely CNC machined from super
strong 6061-T6 aluminum, bead blasted and Mil Spec hard anodized
for a matte black finish that will hold up to years of hard use.
The barrel clamps and recoil lug are made of 4142 chrome/molly
steel with a satin black phosphate finish. This is the mount
that should have come with the M-14 from the beginning.

| Forward, low mounting configuration with the
enhanced versatility of a standard mounting rail. |
 |
| Taking the functional utility of
the Mini-14 to the next level, the new UltiMAK M4-B Mini-14
scope mount is the lowest, most stable forward mount available.
Perfect for mounting Aimpoint reflex sights, EOTech holographic
sights, and Trijicon Reflex and Tripower tactical sights, the
forward positioning allows faster targeting with better field of
view, greater mounting versatility, and maintains full access to
the receiver mechanism with optics in place. Also works
extremely well with Intermediate Eye Relief scopes, like the
Leupold "Scout" scope. The MIL STD 1913 (Weaver/Picatinny) rail
sits lower than the original Ranch receiver mounts. This
provides a better, more natural spot weld for rapid target
acquisition. Allows co witnessing of iron sights with tube
bodied, reflex sights. No-gunsmithing installation. Fits earlier
