See our TRG page for scope mounts for this rifle.

The Tikka Optilock mount keep the scope centered in all conditions. The scope rests in the grip of a revolutionary ball-bearing type ring. Unlike conventional mounts, the Optilock's polymer rings distribute the clasping force evenly along the scope shaft, ensuring that your valuable optics will not be twisted or scratched. With Optilock mounts, the scope and mounts are easily mounted and removed as one unit without affecting the point of impact. The limiter pin in the mount base and the limiter pin slot on the receiver enable fast and accurate remounting of the scope/mount unit and guarantee stability of mounting. Optilock bases and rings are machined from a solid block of CR-Mo Alloy or stainless steel. The base design with its clamping device connects to the Tikka T3 rifle's integral dovetail rail on the receiver.

The Optilock Rings listed below require an Optilock Base for mounting. The Sako and Tikka bases below are designed to be used on Sako and Tikka rifles with mount rails (dovetails) on the receiver. Please order bases with your rings if you want to mount the unit on a rifle. Sako/Tikka rings require Sako/Tikka bases. Tikka rifles require Tikka bases and Sako rifles require Sako bases.  Tikka Optilock Rings fit Sako and Tikka Bases listed below.  Mounting screws and wrench included with rings and bases.

Optilock Ringmounts are one piece units that combine the rings and the base so no additional hardware is required to mount the scope.

Optilock Rings require the purchase of Optilock Bases. You must select the diameter (one inch or 30mm) and the ring height for the scope you are installing. Use the Height Selector For Optilock Mount Systems chart at the bottom of the page.

Optilock Bases are required for Optilock Rings. Sako rifles require you to use the Short, Long, and Extended Sako Optilock Base Selection Chart on the this page to select the Short, Long, or Extended base to fit the action length of the rifle. All Tikka rifles accept the same Tikka Universal base. All Optilock bases are available in blue and stainless finish.

Quickmounts utilize a lever to mount the unit and most include the rings

The innovative new design has all the advantages of Sako Optilock scope mounts joined to new practical quick-acting levers. Levers are adjustable, making the removal and remounting of the scope precise and easy. Levers can be adjusted to the desired position.

In big game hunting, the situations may require that you can remove the scope in seconds and use open sights or change to another scope type. Sako Optilock Quickmount allows you to do that, and leaves no disturbing base pieces on the action. The quickmount feature is also practical for traveling storing and when the rifle is cleaned and oiled. When re-mounting just push the unit back to dovetail rails of your Sako so that the limiter pin is pushed all the way to the slot on the receiver, tighten the levers and you are all set - in seconds! The scope is now zeroed as it was before the removal.

Please note that most Sako and Tikka rifles require only low Optilock mounts for up to a 2.48"(63mm front belle diameter) one inch tube scope, and up to a 2.64"(67mm front belle diameter) 30mm scope tube. Most first time mount buyers purchase mounts that are too high. Please see the chart below for Sako/Tikka recommendations for mount height vs. scope belle diameter. The smaller number (belle size) is for heavy barrels and the larger number (belle size) is for standard barrels. Also see chart on this page for Ring Height Selection for Tikka Ringmounts. Please don't forget to measure your scope cover outside diameter when measuring diameters to select ring height.

This is the information I received back from the Tech.

The chart is correct for all tube lengths, however keep in mind that these are maximum outside objective bell diameters that are listed on the chart, not the scope manufacturer's listed objective lens size.

For example, a typical 50 mm scope will have an actual outside diameter of 58 mm.  You can see from the chart,  in the first column, that the maximum objective diameter with low rings combined with a standard contour barrel is 55 mm. That means the objective bell diameter of a typical 50 mm scope is 3 mm to large and will hit the barrel when the scope is mounted. The second column listing is to be used on rifles that have a bull or heavy type barrel, you can see that these listed maximum objective bell diameters are less than in the first column, indicating the smaller available bell clearance when mounting scopes on rifles with thicker barrels. Most scope manufacturer's will list the outside objective bell diameter on their websites or catalogs scope specification charts, this way you can determine which ring height to choose without having to have the scope in hand.

A good rule to keep in mind is:
Use low rings for scopes with up to 40 mm lens size
Use medium rings for scopes with 50 mm lens size
Use high rings on scopes with larger than 50 mm lens size

The rings that were supplied with the Tikka T3 are complimentary and are not exchangeable.  They are applicable for standard style scopes used on this model.  These rings are supplied in an effort to allow the customer immediate use of the firearm and will accept a 1" dia tubed scope with up to a 40mm objective size.  Sako has recently (2007) discontinued shipping rings with new rifles. Customers will now have to purchase the rings and bases to fit their needs.

Sako/Tikka Optilock Bases

Sako rifles require either a Short, Long, or Extended Optilock Base. This is determined by action length which is part of the model number of the rifle. The only choice you have is the color of the base, either blue or stainless. The short, long, or extended option is determined by the model of your rifle. Please use the chart near the bottom of the page to determine which base you need to mount your Optilock Rings which are purchased separately. Also note that all Tikka rifles take the same Optilock Base.

What Optilock scope mount may be used on the I, III, and III WSM Sako Actions?

Both the long and the short scope bases may be used on the short action. The difference between these two base types: On the short scope base set the "front" mount scope ring is positioned at the front of the base.  This base ring assembly would be ideal for use with rifle scopes that have a very long overall length and you want to get as much support as possible. It would also be a good choice if you "crawl" the stock and need to move the scope further forward to get correct eye relief. On the long scope mount "front" ring and base assembly, the scope ring is positioned at the rear of the base. This is ideal for if you need the ability to mount the scope further to the rear to achieve correct eye relief, or if you are mounting a "compact" scope with a very short main tube. Typically, we recommend the long assembly on the WSM to ensure that the scope is located as far forward as possible to prevent "scope eye"; but obviously, there are many personal factors that could affect this.

Optilock Rings

Optilock Rings fit both Sako and Tikka Optilock Bases.   Select your Optilock Base to match your rifle color and model number and then select your Optilock Rings to match the tube diameter, front belle diameter of the scope, and color you desire. Please consult the ring height charts below to avoid ordering the incorrect ring height. Please remember to include your barrel type (standard or heavy) and your scope covers in any diameter measurements and ring selections. Remember, most first time ring buyers purchase rings that are too high because they don't consult the charts. Remember, you will need Optilock Bases to mount your Optilock Rings on the rifle.
